Diabetes Support Groups
Sault Ste. Marie Diabetes Support Groups
Meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at Nokomis Mishomis Place, 2076 Shunk Road. You are invited to join them for potluck at 5 p.m. (please bring a dish to pass and your own table service), or just for the presentation at 6 p.m. Charla Gordon, RD, is the contact person, 906-630-0792.
St. Ignace Diabetes Support Group
Meets on the 4th Monday of the month at the Mackinac Straits Hospital from 1:30 to 2:30PM. It is held in the room attached to the cafeteria on the second floor. Everyone is encouraged to come. To inquire about the St. Ignace support group, call Marielle at 906-643-0441.
Munising Diabetes Support Group
Meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 3 – 5 p.m. in the downstairs gathering area of Grand Island Chippewa Community Center. There is a potluck, and topics range from traditional medicine to diabetes disease process, questions for the pharmacist, getting active, carb counting, etc. They always have a fun activity or game and usually some kind of prizes or giveaways. Manistique Diabetes Support Group
Meets on the 4th Friday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon in the Activities Room of the Manistique Tribal Health Center. Many attend the elder meals following the group meeting. Gail Sulander, RD, is the contact person, 906-341-8469.
Newberry Diabetes Support Group
Meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Community Room of the Newberry Tribal Health Center from 10 a.m. to noon. Lisa Simmons, RN, and Shirley Kowalke, CHT, are the contact persons, 906-293-8181.
